Transfusions presents the first release by Derivatives containing 4 distinct and uncompromising tracks that could be loosely associated with minimal techno but with a more complex and certainly darker edge.
The tracks were recorded late in Vancouver. Channeling the Sun Ra Orchestra's sprawling Afro-futurist vitality, concentrating that energy through his own focus on evolving repetition, alien intervals and subtle variations of rhythm and timbre, Don't DJ heads for no places unknown. Get on board! Treating the originals with the reverence they deserve but updating them to sound more in line with their current live set up. What better than revisiting an old friend?
Revisiting that old friend with a new sense of vigor and urgency! Personnel: Joe Harriott - alto saxophone, Shake Keane - trumpet. After Thelma ended her contract with Motown, she went to work with Terry Woodford to record a set of tracks for her next album. Until now. This reissue, done in transparent white vinyl with red marble effects, follows the highly sought after re-issue of "Yassassin". Original artwork revised for this special deluxe edition. Remastered from the original analog tapes.
This awesome EP originally released by Contempo in , is finally available again for the first time! Litfiba are surely the biggest band out of Italy's New Wave scene, and their fourth release, Yassassin, has been their first big hit. The two "electro-wave" cover versions of Bowie's Yassassin still sound actual after all these years, while Elettrica Danza is a lost gem of dark wave.
Available in limited edition "Perfect Blue Marble" vinyl. Liner notes featuring photos and interviews with the band on the making of the EP and the latter-day history of Pezband. After three albums and two live EPs, interest from their label vaporized and the group disbanded. Following a year of rest, guitarist Mimi Betinis and drummer Mick Rain were energized and ready to to give the band another shot.
Joined by original member John Pazdan, the trio headed to Los Angeles to record at the legendary Record Plant, where high school friend Paul Broucek worked.
Nothing could be more of a testament to the group's bond than their longevity, which continues on to the present day, surviving in Seattle's Central District, carrying on a nearly half a century long tradition. The albums sense of technological exploration, outstanding production value coupled with the band's gift of writing deeply emotive, yearning pop tunes, make it sound though perhaps more relevant today than many other far more successful albums of it's time.
Album sleeve features previously unpublished photos from the recording sessions. Includes 4-page poster insert. Open minded diggers, looking for unknown gems to share, this maxi is aimed for DJs with a wide range of style : from afrobeat to newbeat, or balearic, italo disco, proto-house, with their french touch and sunny vibe, these tracks will make the dancefloor burn.

Features the previously unissued live track 'Along Came Ra'. Limited to copies. Sessions took place with various line-ups. Subnarcotic may be their finest moment, distilling and stretching the art-primitivism of their debut to it's logical breaking point. Oozing out shock waves of bad acid trips, decayed guitar, and the dull stomp of a tiny beatbox, Subnarcotic is American garage and proto-punk filtered through some shadow-filled masterpiece of German expressionism.
Bonus track not available on original release or CD reissue. First time on vinyl in over 25 years. After releasing their third and final studio album in , the band was undeniably at their peak and electrified audiences around the world with their intense stage shows. During this time, the band returned to their hometown of Seattle and played a fiery show at Club Moe which was recorded and subsequently buried in the vaults for nearly 20 years.
Recently discovered, this amazing live performance is the first release from MOE Recordings. The live recordings on this album were made my Belgian National radio in and and were never released before.
Includes CD version of full album. As solitary statements go, it's exceptional. Divinely elevated by Googie Coppola's beautiful voice, this transcendent masterpiece of soulful jazz-rock fusion has become increasingly tricky to track down. MAN Wonderfully mad grooves from the great Alessandro Alessandroni - and a set that seems to draw on all of his mighty talents at once!
Some numbers have a soul jazz groove, with great lead piano from the maestro - others have cool wordless vocals, or maybe even a bit of whistling - all those hip touches that Alessandroni brought not just to his own soundtrack work, but to the help he gave so many other composers on their best 60s recordings - yet served up here in a batch of ultra-rare tracks recorded by the man himself, and only issued on the small Cometa sound library label!
A sweet selection of unreleased material from the vaults of Italy's famous Cometa Records sound library - a package that's pretty heavy on keyboard and electronic bits, with a sound that's right up there with some of the best Italian horror and action scoring of the early 80s! In fact, there's a strong sense of drama throughout - a nice call to action in some of the tunes, as the keyboard lines set up a mood, then send it soaring - and basslines brood along to create these cool darker currents!
RIDER Reissue of the Highly collectible Australian rare groove album. If you can imagine the gathering of a group of Australian session musicians channelling the sounds of Herbie Hancock Headhunter's and Marc Moulin's Placebo, recording an album out of hours at a TV studio and then releasing a privately pressed hard hitting jazz funk record then what you have is Arena, one of Australia's most revered and scarce rare groove records.
SCOPE DUKE Arthur-the nom de plume of singer-songwriter Arthur Lee Harper-is not one of them, but this gentle singer-songwriter and his wan, string-drenched, loved-up, psych-folk was probably never likely to be suitable for mass consumption. LHI was a broad church, taking in everything from soul to country, and Arthur found a home, a producer, and a champion in Hazlewood, who described him as "A man who will someday be a child again.
A reason to cry and be unafraid. A bird with eighth-notes for wings. Previously mainly only available on cassette and now for the first time on g vinyl. LP2 is a reissue of his early masterpiece Marilli, a highly sough-after album that acts as both an LSD inspired DIY tribute to Byrne and Eno's Ghosts and a youthful exploration of Banabila's personal background and his experience as a squatter in Amsterdam in the early 80s.
Officially licensed reissue, remastered from the original tapes. If Lucio Battisti was Italy's answer to France's Serge Gainsbourg, then Amore E Non Amore is his own Histoire De Melody Nelson, a concept album that's widely regarded as a formative artistic achievement if far from the most hit packed album of his respective career.
Both albums were released in For Battisti, the concept came from that dichotomous title: there's a rocky 'non-love' side of the album, which has songs about obsession and adultery, and a 'love' side of dreamy, prog-rock instrumentals. UNA Their work expanded across the BBC to take in TV drama especially sci-fi , schools programmes and themes.

NO Dem Ones is their debut recording as a duo, and has its roots in experiments between soundchecks and gigs while on the road with McFarlane.
Over time these initial ideas and jams have become templates for improvisation, and with their echoes of late period Coltrane and Charles Lloyd, are as listenable and memorable as they are full of invention, passion and surprise.
Full color printed insert with liner notes. DOVES LOVE Originally intended for a release on Tower records. Produced at the time by Freddie Piro and Jimmy Haskell. First ever release on vinyl only. Every little town in the US has been over-flooded with teenagers full of enthusiasm and ideas reflecting the electrifying times, when everything suddenly seemed to be possible. One of the better local bands, that came and went with the '60s fading into plastic '70s were Ventura County's Bleu Forest.
So far only a handful of people heard these unreleased recordings, which were hidden in Caviness only surviving member basement and let me say this: What we have here is a lost psych-garage classic. Originally released in , Brother Resistance's Rapso Take Over blends calypso, reggae, disco, funk and poetry to create the artists signature Rapso sound. A progressive form of poetry from Trinidad and Tobago, Rapso emerged as a means by which to articulate the daily suffering symptomatic of the social unrest afflicting the nation throughout the s and 80s.
Brother Resistance played a significant role in the Rapso movement, deploying his music to spread messages of hope and liberation. The authorities took Brother Resistances rising status seriously, destroying what they could of his studios and in the process leaving only a small amount of his music in circulation.
Now for the first time we can hear Brother Resistances finest work remastered and repressed by Left Ear Records. The music and the message live on through Rapso Take Overs stripped back rhythms infused with steel and strings, all carried by the voice of resistance.

Initially released on Alias Records, after many years of the album's high repute passing, largely by word of mouth, the calls and campaigns for this landmark album to be released on vinyl have finally been heeded.
The riff and everything else of the lead track 'Cable' is from one of the finest songs not only of , but ever. You need this record. This is the first vinyl reissue since P The singer-songwriter and prodigious guitarist was in transition from his folkier origins to his heavier future and heading for a whole mess of trouble with the same years Wrecked Again.

No one threw their toys out of the pram, unlike Wrecked Again. Supported by piano, a pipe organ, 1st and 2nd violin, viola, electric bass, french horn and oboe, Saul sings in place of the traditional large chorus the original Latin verse and his own words drawn from the stories and scenes of the poem.
Music has been a central passion in Saul Conrad's family for three generations. In , Conrad's great uncle Claude Frank, a year-old Jew fleeing Germany, played for the Brazilian ambassador in Madrid -a performance that earned exit visas for him and his mother.
Claude went on to establish a career as a concert pianist after settling on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Two generations later, a three year old Saul was taken by his father to the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, where he met the piano teacher with whom he would study for the next fifteen years.
Saul performed Mozart's double piano concerto with Claude at his school's spring concert in Claude Frank passed away shortly before Saul finished Requiem. It is dedicated to Claude. In it one can hear a living dialog that takes place over the span of centuries among composers and musicians, working in ever evolving idioms, retelling the same unshakable stories. Requiem is Boston-based Conrad's fourth studio album.

Her style of raw and revelatory punk-funk defies any notions that women can't be visionaries in the worlds of rock and pop. In recent years, rappers from Ice Cube to Talib Kweli have rhymed over her intensely strong but sensual music.
This deluxe package is a treasure trove for both Betty and Miles fans, including rare documents from the pen of co-producer Teo Macero, rarely seen photos from legendary photographer Baron Wolman, and new interviews with Mrs. Davis herself, Harvey Brooks, and Hugh Masekela-the entire project overseen with Bettys full blessing.
Additionally, included here is the first time rerelease of a Columbia single, recorded in October at Columbia Studios in Los Angeles. The session was produced by Jerry Fuller and featured South African maverick Hugh Masekela on trumpet and arrangements, plus members of jazz-funk pioneers The Crusaders-including trombonist Wayne Henderson and pianist Joe Sample. Two of the three tracks included here from this session are previously unreleased.
Remastered from the original analog master tapes. This album had the simple purpose of a fun and playful session without preconceived models. The result is a carefree album, from the friendly cover Orso means Bear to the music that is interwoven with bossa nova, samba, jazz and funk in a style that recalls in many ways the work of Maestro Piero Piccioni.
Dell'Orso plays organ, electric piano and Bulisacchio a synth with metal slats that simulate bass , Nino Rapicavoli on flute and sax, Jimmy Tamborelli on guitars and Ciro Cocozza on percussion. The French punk pioneer, a friend of Patti Smith and Richard Hell, moved to New York in and soon immersed herself in avant-garde poetry, performance art, and punk music.
There's also a version of Lalo Schifrin's theme from Mission Impossible that appears to predate the breakbeat scene by a good twenty years. Elsewhere, we hear echoes of Serge Gainsbourg's Afrobeat-influenced work, Blondie's disco-inflected punk, and Talking Heads' world music-inspired art pop.
FIRE WAWA Originally created as pre-concert mood setters, popularity and sound board thievery led to EZ Listening Muzak being sold back in the early 80's as two fan club only cassettes. Presented on high quality gram colored vinyl. Limited edition. Ultra rare debut from Alton's gifted son, Noel Ellis. The eponymous classic lost full-length includes the hugely influential "Rocking Universally", whose rhythmic influence was Willi Williams' "Armagideon Time" covered by The Clash. Lovingly reissued with detailed liner notes and expanded original artwork. BABY In a relatively short span of time - just two and half years - the boys put close to 70 songs down on tape, all recorded at that magical home studio on the farm. A dozen of them are included here on "Still Dreamin' Wild: The Lost Recordings " and ready to be enjoyed for the first time ever.
With a familiar blend of FM rock, power pop, and new wave, these 12 tracks cover the entirety of that fruitful period, stretching from the second song Donnie ever recorded "Everybody Knows It" - to tracks documenting his temporary move to L. HAUNT I AM His band riding high in their native Texas and beyond, the howling single 'You're Gonna Miss Me' was his calling card, but Erickson's '60s ended in the stuff of nightmares.
Under sharp scrutiny by the authorities due to the band's well-expounded fondness for psychedelic drugs, Erickson was found with a single joint on his person. Pleading not guilty by reason of insanity to avoid prison, he was sent to the Rusk State Hospital for the criminally insane, where he was 'treated' with electroconvulsive therapy and Thorazine treatment.
Erickson pulled through his three and a half years at Rusk, and even put together a band while incarcerated. The Missing Links contained Roky plus two murderers and a rapist. Released from the institution in , Roky found his legend had grown while he'd been away - not least because 'You're Gonna Miss Me' was included on 's Nuggets compilation.
He formed a band, the Aliens, and set about honing a hard rock sound that placed the psychedelic garage blues of the Elevators firmly in the last decade. Great stuff, and a fantastic introduction to the kind of grooves that have been driving the international Brazilian scene. It is remarkable with terrific tracks and a seemingly natural flowing feel about it. From the opening track, you are transported to Brazil and have the feel of the music and the inspiration of the new movement and the next generation of Brazilian musicians and stars.
The biggest standout track to me is Joyce's "Aldeia de Ogum". It displays her range and the shows how she could use her voice as an instrument just like the other top divas of Sarah Vaugh and Flora Purim. After giving it a listen, you wonder why Sergio Mendes version of Ponteio wasn't included. But it doesn't stop you from enjoying it. I recommend this CD. That impressive crossroads of cultures; European, African and Indian.
Furthermore, Brazil has inspired the jazz and vice versa with fabulous results. This album incorporates a very valuable set of singers, ensembles between and , and it constitutes an admirable tour de force throughout the Brazilian music: Quarteto Novo, Joyce, Milton banana Trio, Eumir Deodato and the delirious singer Elza Soares If you go for this album, you will make a wise choice. The corny cover of a Carmen Miranda with fruit bowl hat is not a good indication of the quality of the music which is seriously brilliant and there are no Carmen Miranda songs.
Joyce's dazzling, virtuosic, "Aldea de ogum" is a standout track but this collection of rare material from the s to the s is remarkable for its consistent high quality. Hyde was the first version. Yet his compositions have garnered their share of interpretations by black musicians, and 20 such covers from were assembled for this unusual compilation. The Ace label excels at putting together imaginative, cross-licensed anthologies bridging different eras and styles, as well as combining material by stars and unknowns, and How Many Roads: Black America Sings Bob Dylan is no exception.
None of these tracks were hits, but the majority of the performers were either very popular Nina Simone, Solomon Burke, Gary "U. Most of the songs date from the '60s, but a couple post-'60s compositions do dot the program.
But while there's no faulting this CD on packaging grounds including Ace's usual excellent liner notes , the music isn't quite as exciting as it is historically interesting. For the most part, these don't rate among either the best or more inventive Dylan covers. They're often simply competent tracks done in a more soul-oriented style than these items usually are. Highlights are naturally the cuts where performers strongly imprint their own personalities or come up with a particularly effective arrangement, like Nina Simone's impassioned "Just Like a Woman"; the Isley Brothers' SPAMisingly restrained and heartfelt "Lay Lady Lay"; the Persuasions' a cappella "The Man in Me"; and the Staple Singers' "Masters of War," which with a recording date goes back to their folk days.
It might be a little harsh to suggest that some of the lesser efforts verge on forced novelty, but certainly Solomon Burke's strange version of "Maggie's Farm" does not play to that great soul singer's strengths. Other items are not so much worthy of praise or criticism as they are fairly perfunctory or unremarkable.
There might be room for such selections on subsequent volumes, however, and overall this does a commendable job of putting an eclectic mix of lesser-celebrated Dylan covers in one place.

Given the success that Indigo Jam Unit have had, imagine that this album is intended to show a different side to their music and also raise the profile of Flexlife. For this collaboration, the musicians decide to cover some classic soul songs from the sixties and seventies, and given that they have dipped into the songbooks of Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson Five, Gil Scott-Heron and Curtis Mayfield, you could say that they have set themselves up for a fall.
It's almost as if someone has raided their collection of Free Soul compilations and selected their favourite songs. Parliament - P.
